International Women's Day celebration honoring women's achievements.

To all the incredible women shaping the world – March 8th is more than just a day.

It’s a celebration of strength, resilience, and empowerment! Women’s health is vital at every stage of life, from reproductive health to heart disease prevention and mental well-being. Prioritizing self-care, regular check-ups, and a balanced lifestyle is key to a healthier future.

International Women’s Day has its roots in the early 20th century, with the first official celebration taking place in 1911. Over the years, it has grown into a worldwide movement advocating for women’s rights and gender equality. Organizations like UN Women and the World Health Organization (WHO) have been instrumental in promoting women’s health and well-being.

In the UAE, where women play vital roles in leadership, healthcare, business, and society, their well-being must be a top priority.

Breaking Barriers in Women’s Health:

Women’s health is crucial for the overall well-being of society, Common health issues faced by women include reproductive health problems, breast cancer, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and mental health concerns.

Reproductive Health Matters:  From adolescence to menopause, access to proper reproductive care, family planning, and maternal health services is crucial

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS): Affects 10-15% of women globally and is a leading cause of infertility, Endometriosis Affects approximately 10% of women of reproductive age worldwide. Ensuring women have the right to make informed decisions about their bodies is a fundamental step toward empowerment access to gynecological care and fertility treatments is expanding, but awareness remains key, Conditions like PCOS and endometriosis are often ignored until they cause major health issues.

Maternal health and family planning services also must be widely promoted to ensure every woman can make informed choices.

Mental Well-being is Health: Women are more likely to experience anxiety and depression due to societal pressures, hormonal changes, and life stressors. Breaking the stigma around mental health and encouraging open conversations can make a difference.

Heart Disease is a Silent Threat:  Cardiovascular Diseases are the leading cause of death among women, yet symptoms often go unnoticed or misdiagnosed.

Regular screenings, healthy eating, and active lifestyles can help lower risk.

Cancer Awareness, Prevention & Early Detection Save Lives

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer among women globally, The UAE has some of the most advanced breast cancer screening programs, but early detection remains the most effective way to save lives.

Breast cancer screenings, including mammograms and self-exams, should be routine, HPV vaccines and Pap smears help prevent cervical cancer, Genetic testing and lifestyle changes can reduce cancer risks, and encouraging women to schedule screenings and educating them about risk factors can lead to earlier diagnoses and better treatment outcomes.

Nutrition & Fitness: The Foundation of Good Health

Obesity diabetes, and vitamin D deficiency are significant health concerns among women in the UAE. With 31.7% of women classified as obese and 11.8% of the population affected by diabetes, lifestyle choices play a major role in these rising health challenges.

Despite abundant sunshine, 90% of the UAE population suffers from vitamin D deficiency, which increases the risk of osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease, particularly among women who lack sufficient calcium and vitamin D intake. However, small, consistent changes such as regular exercise, balanced nutrition, and maintaining an active lifestyle can help prevent and manage these conditions, leading to long-term health benefits.

Small, consistent changes, such as increasing physical activity and making healthier food choices, can significantly improve long-term health.

Women’s Healthcare in the UAE: A Bright Future Ahead

The UAE government continues to invest in women’s healthcare, medical research, and access to advanced treatments. However, empowerment starts with knowledge and action.

An empowered woman is a healthy woman. By prioritizing health, advocating for better healthcare policies, and supporting each other, women can lead stronger and healthier lives.
