This year’s WorldHealthDay theme was chosen to advocate for everyone’s right to have access to all the essentials for a healthy life. That are…?

The World Health Organization (WHO), founded on 7th April 1948, established the annual World Health Day as a forum to address major health challenges, promote healthy living, and highlight the importance of health as a basic human right. Every year, a theme for World Health Day is announced; this year’s theme is ‘My health, my right’.
Right to Health: More than a timely doctor´s appointment
It was chosen to advocate for everyone’s right to have access to all the essentials for a healthy life. The right to health entails more than merely a timely doctor’s appointment, medication, and high-quality hospital care.
The right to health is a fundamental element of our human rights. Internationally, it was first described in the 1946 World Health Organization (WHO) Constitution, whose preamble defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being”. Health is much more than mere the absence of illness. It encompasses a variety of factors that can help us lead a healthy life, including :
- The right to have access to safe drinking water and food.
- The right to healthy working and environmental conditions
- The right to health education and health information.
- The right that every medical treatment requires patients consent.
- The right to prevention, treatment and control of diseases or access to essential medicines.
Special attention: Health rights for vulnerable groups.
Some groups or individuals, such as children, people with disabilities, or people with mental disorders, encounter specific obstacles in achieving their right to health. These may occur as the result of biological or socioeconomic factors, stigma, or discrimination. As a result, the key focus MoHAP has already released in relation to the 2023 World Health Day theme “Health for All” topic are still relevant: Promote health and well-being for all segments of society, particularly the most vulnerable, such as the elderly and the children of our community.
